So you ate too much, what now?
Tis the season for cookies, pies and cakes oh my!
Everywhere you turn, someone wants to feed you.
And of course you need to nibble on it all because it’s the holiday season and these treats won’t be around forever.
But what happens when that half cookie turns into three?
Which then turns into feeling like you blew it so you say f-it for the week because it’s Friday and you can be better on Monday.
There’s a different way
A way where you can build more trust in yourself around the cookies.
It’s easy to overdo it because your brain loves the path of least resistance (a.k.a. the path well traveled).
And that path has always led you to overindulging.
So what if we built new pathways that led elsewhere?
Neuroplasticity is cool like that.
A half cookie doesn’t have to keep spiraling into four days of waiting until Monday.

Try this the next time you’re around holiday treats
Step 1: Eat the cookie (or whatever it is you desire)
Step 2: Set an alarm for 15-20 minutes.
During this time it’s helpful to walk away from the cookies and/or do something to occupy yourself. This could be taking a walk, phoning a friend, washing your hair (if you know, you know)…
Step 3: If you’re still wanting another cookie, go for it and start this process over. You also might realize that you don’t actually want the cookie anymore. This happens more than you’d think.
Here’s the thing, you don’t get any gold stars for not going back for another cookie. This exercise isn’t about eating or not eating the cookie, it’s about making the choice on purpose.
Give yourself time
In the beginning you may still end up eating more cookies than you want, and that’s okay.
This is where having a coach makes the difference, because someone is there to help you through the times it doesn’t go the way you hoped.
